Chelsea could have had another injury nightmare if £23m offer for winger was accepted in August

It seems that Chelsea have finally managed to dodge an injury bullet on the transfer front.

They’ve been heavily linked with Antonio Nusa since the summer, when they had a £23m bid for the winger rejected by Club Brugge, Nizaar Kinsella reported here.

It seemed like they had missed out to Tottenham, with Chelsea instead having grabbed Cole Palmer and Spurs closing in on the Norwegian winger this month.

But in the end it was Brentford who moved hard to make a record signing – they agreed a £31.5m deal for Nusa, only to see it collapse in the last 24 hours because of knee issues detected during his medical. Further tests are underway, but he looks unlikely to move before the window closes now.

Poor Nusa will be devastated – he chose Brentford over bigger options because he wanted to play, and now he’s discovered something very serious. We’re happy Chelsea avoided another injury nightmare – but still wish Nusa all the best.
