€55m talent captains Chelsea to cement incredible 24 month rise to the top

With Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured and Conor Gallagher rested, Levi Colwill has been names Chelsea’s captain for today’s game against Preston North End.

Football moves so fast that it’s easy to forget how quick Colwill’s rise has been. Two years ago he was in the Championship with Huddersfield, and it was only the more knowledgeable Blues fans who were really convinced he would be a starter before long.

Now he’s captaining his boyhood side, valued at €55m (TM), is playing well and putting far into the past last summer’s rumours that he was keen to leave and join Brighton permanently.

With Alfie Gilchrist making his debut on the right side of defence, plus Michael Golding and Dylan Williams on the bench, it’s a real Cobham spectacular for Chelsea today.

Despite the sporting directors’ best efforts to sell off the crown jewels, the academy keeps producing great players who are ready to step into the first team.
