The January window has closed and Conor Gallagher is still a Chelsea player. For the majority of fans, this is a cause for celebration. It certainly is for Mauricio Pochettino, who has shown how keen he is to use the midfielder.
But one shouldn’t relax too much – this has only pushed the issue back to the summer. There is still no sign that Gallagher is going to be persuaded to sign a new contract anytime soon, meaning a redoubled effort by the club this summer to try and flog him.
There will be no shortage of interest. We all know that Tottenham made a big in August, and that they are still hunting for a central midfielder. But you can also add Newcastle to that list.
