Chelsea are one of the teams interested in signing Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams, Fabrizio Romano is reporting.
Williams has emerged as a real star for Athletic Club in recent seasons, and the 21 year old is being increasingly linked with Premier League teams like the Blues. His electric pace, combined with a great engine and superb finishing and dribbling skills make him a real threat all the way across the front line.
“Arsenal have also sent their scouts to follow Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao multiple times, and it’s the same for Chelsea as they included him in the list last summer,” Romano wrote in his exclusive column for Caughtoffside.
“The race is completely open, and nothing is advanced with either club so far. He’d be great in the Premier League in my opinion – a physical and technical player; very good one.”
His older brother Inaki has remained loyal to Athletic despite years of links with moves abroad – it will be interesting to see whether Nico follows the same path, or whether he strikes out on his own to make his career abroad.
