Chelsea said no to £50m forward last summer – but could try again this year

We thought it would just be a matter of time before we saw these stories popping up, and indeed here we are.

Last summer, Dusan Vlahovic was one of the strikers most strongly linked to Chelsea. Juventus seemed open to selling, but their asking price was too high, and by the end of the summer it was clear that our attention had moved on.

After a slow start to the season he’s started warming up again though, and now inevitably we’re seeing links to the forward again.

LondonWorld claim that sources have told them that we’re set to “reignite” our interest in the Serbian striker, who is up to 15 goals on the season after an important brace at the weekend. They add that Vlahovic was available for £50m last summer, but Chelsea demurred.

If he was too expensive last summer, we’re not sure exactly what will make him more affordable this time around. Perhaps it will just be the lack of other established options that forces us to stump up?

It still feels a little like a disaster waiting to happen.
