Chelsea will wait to see what they have in young talent before approach for €45m man is made

Spanish transfer portal Fichajes have today repeated the line that Chelsea are watching Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

The 24 year old has established himself as one of Europe’s top keepers, as well as making himself the Portuguese national team’s undisputed number one. Chelsea’s directors apparently see him as a potential upgrade in goal if he comes onto the market at a reasonable price. Transfermarkt currently values him at €45m.

We have always been of the opinion that the club will indeed considering buying a new, top class goalkeeper at some point down the line. Robert Sanchez has always felt like a competent stand-in for a couple of years rather than a future Champions League winner.

But all this will depend on two things – how Djordje Petrovic develops, and how highly they rate Costa.

If Petrovic continues to look good and perhaps even improves with experience, the club might really shelve all their plans for a new stopper.
