Ex-Chelsea player believes 23 year old forward has “incredible potential”

Former Chelsea player Gus Poyet believes Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk has “incredible potential.”

It has been a difficult first full season at Stamford Bridge for the 23 year old having arrived in west London in January 2023 for an initial £62.5m.

He has made 25 appearances in all competitions scoring three goals and providing two assists and despite showing glimpses of his quality on occasions it hasn’t been enough to convince Mauricio Pochettino to give him a regular run in the side.

However, Poyet has claimed there is a still big future for the winger and he hopes it’s at Stamford bridge.

Speaking on talkSport he said: “The speed. I think he needs something to click. You need to know the person as well. There are some players who understand straight away, but some you need to repeat it or show them. You’ve got 26 different people learning in different ways.”

He added: “I don’t know him, but he has got incredible potential. It would be such a shame if it doesn’t work out at Chelsea.”

Mudryk will be hoping he can make an impact in the Carabao Cup final with his last minute equaliser and goal in the penalty shootout against Newcastle in the quarter final the reason the Blues were able to make it to Wembley.

It would appear unlikely that he will see any action on Sunday given he hasn’t started any of Chelsea’s last six games and hasn’t played a single minute in the last three.
