“He’s been a big issue” – Pundit on 22 year old Chelsea star

Pundit Jobi McAnuff believes that Moises Caicedo has been a real issue for Chelsea recently.

It’s been an up and down season for Caciedo following his British record transfer from Brighton last summer but the 22 year olds performances have certainly improved since the start of the season.

The Ecuador international provided the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s equaliser in last night’s 3-2 win over Leeds in the FA Cup.

However, McAnuff believes the midfielder causes Chelsea problems when trying to start attacks from deeper areas.

Speaking before the Leeds game on ITV4 he said: “He’s been a big issue because he’s the one who has to start attacks and build attacks from that number six position and I don’t think he’s quite good enough.”

“At Brighton he was surrounded by players like Billy Gilmour and Pascal Gross who would drop into those positions and help him out where that responsibility wasn’t solely on his shoulders whereas now Enzo wants to get forward, sometimes he vacates that midfield and I just think they have been too open at times.”

Caicedo has been a mainstay in the Blues midfield this season and has made 33 appearances in all competitions but is yet to find the back of the net.

The Ecuadorian’s price tag means he is always under constant scrutiny but his performances over the last couple of months show Chelsea should have no worries about him becoming a great player for the club.

The midfielder will be back in action on Saturday as Chelsea travel to Brentford in the Premier League.
