“Impossible” – Another depressing update on £58m midfielder; we might not see him until the end of the season

Chelsea’s strategy with injuries this season seems to be to give an update on players every week, but one that doesn’t give many specifics. That’s then followed by Mauricio Pochettino’s press conference, where he is exceptionally vague week after week.

That’s how you end up with a case like Romeo Lavia. He’s played half an hour for us all season, having picked up what appear to be at least two different injuries. Yet we’re never really sure what they are, what went wrong, what setbacks have occurred and so on.

Pochettino’s update on the £58m (AP) midfielder today was negative, although typically vague:

“No. He is not training with the team. He is still recovering. But no, no, impossible. Still not on the pitch.”

At this stage we’ve totally given up on counting on Lavia at all this season, let alone in a cup game coming up in a couple of weeks. If he gets a few games before the end of this totally wasted season, we’ll consider it a win at this stage.
