New role looks a long shot for struggling £89m winger

There are some interesting rumours that Mykhailo Mudryk will be used as a number 10 tonight against Leeds.

The usually reliable Nathan Gissing claims the winger will slot into the role Conor Gallagher usually plays. Which answers our questions about how 4 attackers can be squeezed in at once.

Frankly we can’t see it working out. Mudryk’s clear strong suit is his electric pace, acceleration and ability to dribble with the ball.

But even when sent on fresh late in games, with plenty of space to attack, with the whole game set up perfectly for him, he fails to impress. How do we expect him to thrive in a position which is notoriously difficult to play in?

Perhaps Leeds’ open and attacking play will create central spaces for him to dribble between the lines? We certainly can’t see him causing too much damage if the onus is on him to pass creatively. We’ve not seen much evidence of that since his £89m (Goal) move over a year ago.
