Alan Shearer has included Chelsea centre back Axel Disasi in his Premier League team of the week after a superb performance against Manchester City.
The Premier League’s all time record goalscorer wasn’t the only one left impressed by the former Monaco stars performance.
Talking on The Rest Is Football Podcast Gary Lineker and Micah Richards both singled out the 25 year old for praise.
Disasi was a rock at the back making three blocks, 16 clearances and five ball recoveries in his man of the match performance against the champions.
Shearer clearly agreed with his co hosts and wrote on the Premier League’s official website: “Axel Disasi (Chelsea). Tower of strength at the back and played a key role in keeping Erling Haaland quiet.”
The Chelsea star was joined in a three man defence by Aston Villa’s Pau Torres and Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior.
The centre half arrived in the summer from French club Monaco for around £38m on a six year contract with fans questioning at the time whether the Blues actually needed to sign him.
Disasi has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino’s men this season making 32 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals in the process.
With Thiago Silva a major doubt for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday Disasi is going to have a key role to play in the backline as he most likely partners rising star Levi Colwill in the heart of the Chelsea defence.
