“Really good saves” – Arsenal Legend praises 24 year old Chelsea star

Former Arsenal and Manchester City goalkeeper David Seaman was full of praise for one Chelsea player despite the Blues losing the Carabao Cup final.

Speaking on his podcast Seamen Says the former England international was full of praise for Blues stopper Djordje Petrovic.

Despite ending up on the losing side Petrovic was arguably Chelsea’s standout performer on Sunday and made a number of brilliant saves across the 120 minutes at Wembley.

Seaman was left impressed by the performance of the 24 year old and made specific mention of a save to deny Liverpool forward Luis Diaz.

He said: “The save that he made from Diaz at the back post, that was a brilliant foot save, right on the line and then he managed to get the rebound and everything along with a clout to the head. He made some really good saves.”

Petrovic will have another opportunity to showcase his talents against Leeds in the FA Cup tomorrow evening at Stamford Bridge.

Despite Robert Sanchez being fit again Petrovic appears to have made the number one shirt his own with a string of impressive performances since coming into the side after Sanchez suffered a knee injury.

The Serbian joined Chelsea last summer for just £14m from MLS side New England Revolution in what so far looks to be a bargain.

It will be interesting to see what decision Mauricio Pochettino makes between the sticks tomorrow night with Sanchez signed in the summer as the number one.

  1. Petrovic certainly has the saves. His biggest area for improvement is in his distribution—especially at distance. When the ball to his centre halves isn’t on he tends to just put it up from grabs near the midway line. Hopefully this is an area of focus with the coaching staff.
