Many Chelsea fans have been pushing for Thiago Silva to be dropped for some time now.
They see the veteran as part of the team’s problems in pushing high up and playing on the front foot.
The game against Aston Villa last week, where he dropped out of the side and they played well without him, was seen as major proof of that.
So when Silva was taken off early in the second half last night, it created the Axel Disasi – Levi Colwill central defensive partnership that many had been clamouring for. From that point the Blues didn’t have a huge amount of defending to do, so it was hard to judge the impact of that switch on the team.
The bad news was that Colwill seemed to hurt himself, and spent the last 20 minutes limping. Let’s hope that’s not serious. If both he and Silva are doubts for the games against Manchester City and Liverpool to come, we’re in big trouble.
