Sources: The ‘very big role’ that Chelsea’s new recruitment chief will have

It was confirmed yesterday by Brighton that their Head of Recruitment Sam Jewell will be leaving the club.

Top sources have since reported that Jewell will then join Chelsea in November after a period of gardening leave from Brighton.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea add Bayern Munich striker to summer shortlist! Also key updates on Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Ollie Watkins, Benjamin Sesko, Ivan Toney and Alexander Isak….

Jewell’s role going to Chelsea has been labelled as a ‘senior multi-club role’ but what exactly does that mean and what exactly will he be doing and bringing at Chelsea, and is his hire a good one?

Our own writer Simon Phillips has a big extensive and exclusive article out on it today which you can read in full on his Substack site.

But from what he has put out, it looks like Jewell is going to prove to be a very good hire, and he is also actually going to have a decent amount of power at Chelsea, as well as across the Blue Co multi-club model that is still currently being built up.

Phillips writes: “Jewell will not be involved in any main and final negotiations for new signings or contracts, but he will have a say in club targets and he will be involved in early negotiations that involves approaching clubs, agents, etc.

“Jewell will also be involved with the current players acting as a link between the hierarchy and the current squad, and also with the manager.

“I believe this will free up more time for the co-sporting directors to concentrate on the general running of the footballing side of the club. But the three will work on close cohesion, as well as with Joe Shields too.

“Jewells’ role has been described to me by sources as ‘a very big role’.”
