Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the Sky cameras after Chelsea’s win over Manchester City, and he insisted that the Blues had showed him they were as good as he hoped and that they could compete when they play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final next weekend.
“We need to feel that it’s possible to beat Liverpool. I think we are going to play the second best team in the world. I think belief is the most important thing. Now we need to recover and prepare.” the coach said.
“The players showed character today. We try and prepare like all of our coaching staff to make the plan of the game. But football is a game that belongs to the players and the execution and performance was from them.”
We’d have to agree. While we didn’t get a win today, we went toe to toe with the best team in their world, in their stadium, and showed we are a match. Against a depleted Liverpool team at a neutral site, we can really start to believe that we can actually win this one.
If we play like we did today, anything is possible. And it was vitally important to realise that. It was only a draw, but it might be one that’s worth more than a point, in the final reckoning.
