Jamie Carragher was on punditry duties for Sky Sports tonight, and he was clear about his choice for man of the match – Axel Disasi, the central defender who was a rock at the back as the Blues kept Erling Haaland and his teammates at bay.
“I can’t remember a better defensive performance this season,” the former Liverpool man raved.
This kind of game really suited Disasi too. His team were on the back foot, defending deep, and he excels at that. It was a real John Terry type of performance, full of last ditch tackles and dominant header. He made an insane 16 clearances in the game, which is more than we can remember seeing in any game before.
So here’s to the often criticised Disasi, finally getting some recognition for a great game.

As good as Disasi was (and I loved his spirit above all else), I think Gusto may have had the slightly better performance. He had Doku absolutely locked down out on our right flank, winning duel after duel. He’s my MOTM no question about it.
