(Video): Pochettino falls back on dodgy Klopp and Guardiola comparisons again

Mauricio Pochettino is right back under the spotlight after a Carabao Cup final defeat.

His press conference today was all about his future – does he have the backing of the owners? What has he heard from them?

He once again compared his tenure to those of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola at their respective clubs.

They certainly had some bumpy moments in their first year in charge, but there was a definite sense that they were progressing steadily, even starting from a low base.

Can you say the same about Chelsea?

You can see the coach speaking in the clip embedded here:

  1. SuperFrank, are you seriously implying there hasn’t been marked progress this season???

Anyone who expects the progress to follow a straight line (as some seem to do) with such a young squad are fooling themselves. But if you’re looking at this group and you can’t see the strides they’ve taken (making a cup final!) then you need to have your head checked.

As for the comparisons to Klopp and Pep, aren’t those clubs, and the sustained excellence they’ve achieved under their respective managers, what we should be striving for (instead of the revolving door that’s short-circuited many a talented Chelsea squad over the last decade? Aren’t we sick and tired of having no hope of challenging for the league and ready to endure a bit of purgatory in order to enjoy a decade of sustained winning when this group comes good?

I for one at sick to death of the impatience and reactionary firings and signings around the club and am dying to see a steady hand be given the time and backing to build a dynasty.

  2. To be fair, Arteta was under immense pressure during the 3 years of mediocrity. He spent a lot of money (and Chelsea can do that) and see where Arsenal is now. He should cite Arsenal.
