Chelsea fans shouldn’t let rumours of interest in €43m striker convince them just yet

We were delighted to see Tammy Abraham back on Roma’s bench at the weekend, the first team he’s been on a teamsheet since he suffered a devastating ACL injury on the last day of last season.

It’s a lovely moment for him, and we hope he picks up some minutes and some goals for the Romans before the campaign is out.

His return prompted the inevitable return of the unlikely transfer rumours connecting him with a move to Stamford Bridge. There was so much regret from most parts of the club about the way that we sold him for €43m in 2021 that plenty of places like to play on our emotions and raise the idea we could buy him back.

Sport Witness translate reports in Italy doing just that. But to us it’s just not realistic. Our sporting directors will want to see him in action for at least 6 months again post-injury before they make any decisions, and that puts us well into next season.

We’d love to see Tammy back, but don’t expect it anytime soon.
