Chelsea left off shortlist for £50m defenders – Blues fans must adjust to new reality

The Daily Telegraph have this afternoon published a piece about the future of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, and Chelsea are conspicuous by their absence from the list of interested teams.

Liverpool, Man U, Tottenham and Arsenal are all name checked, but the Blues are nowhere to be seen.

That’s unusual – we’ve always been put in the mix before, with a potential return to Stamford Bridge for our academy product seeming a great move for all involved. But the £50m which Palace apparently want seems out of our budget right now.

We’re not surprised to see us left off this list – and that’s a pattern we can expect to continue. Until we complete some big sales we’re simply not going to be in the running for transfers of this magnitude.

Our priority is a top striker, and we don’t even seem to have the funds for that. We’ve invested heavily in central defenders in the last 18 months, and unless we start selling, it doesn’t seem like we will be buying much.
