Chelsea’s right wing threat continues to put him name among the very best in his position

When we saw that Chelsea had indeed switched to a back five for today’s game against Brentford, there was one clear positive – that Malo Gusto would be unleashed down the right.

The Frenchman has had a few injuries to overcome this season, but when he’s played he’s looked good. The last few weeks especially he’s really gone up a gear. Seeing him play a position with fewer defensive responsibilities was always going to be a hit.

He took full advantage of that freedom at the G Tech stadium, and concluded a really bright first half by swinging in a superb cross for Nicolas Jackson to head home to open the scoring. It’s his 7th assist of the season.

That’s a brilliant return for someone with just 18 starts this season.

The question is whether we can build a back four solid enough to support him as a very attacking player, rather than having to move to a new formation to get the most out of him.
