English coach added to Chelsea’s shortlist – but fans wouldn’t be happy

Chelsea still have a coach, but the pressure Mauricio Pochettino is under is so intense right now that there’s open speculation about who might replace him should he be sacked.

The feeling is that the former Spurs boss must get into Europe if he want to keep his job, and as it stands that’s looking increasingly unlikely.

If he goes, we all know the names that will be mentioned in connection with the job. Largely they will be the same names that were coming up a year ago – Julian Nagelsmann, Hansi Flick, Ruben Amorim, and so on.

But today Ben Jacobs added a new name to the list – Eddie Howe.

Howe is also in a job – at Newcastle, whom we play on Monday night. But there’s a sense that the Magpies may want to upgrade, and that would leave Howe free for Chelsea.

We can imagine the reaction of many fans if we get a coach who’s just been dumped by Newcastle, and it wouldn’t be pretty.
