“I didn’t realise how good he was” – Danny Murphy on Chelsea star

Danny Murphy has admitted he didn’t realise how good Cole Palmer was until this season.

Palmer has been superb for the Blues following his summer move from Manchester City and has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League so far this season.

The 21 year old was named man of the match in Monday’s 3-2 win against Newcastle where he scored and provided an assist for Nicolas Jackson.

His form this season has seen him become an England international with Palmer making his debut against Malta at Wembley last November and if he continues this form he has every chance of going to the Euros this summer.

The former City man has rightfully been receiving a lot of plaudits for his performances but Murphy admitted he didn’t realise just how good the versatile forward was.

Speaking on talkSPORT he said: “I think he has the temperament to play against any opposition, any big game. He’s just a wonderfully, intelligent footballer. I’ve had the privilege of seeing him live about four times, watched him closely.

“I didn’t realise how good he was. He can play anywhere. He doesn’t rely on amazing pace because of his manipulation with the ball and his body movement. He’s just a brilliant footballer.”

Palmer will be looking to continue his brilliant form in the FA Cup against Leicester City on Sunday as the Blues look to return to Wembley for a second time this season.
