Sterling likely to test Chelsea fans’ patience once again with start against Burnley

Mauricio Pochettino’s comments in the embargoed section of yesterday’s press conference were just what we wanted – a detailed take on his squad’s injury situation.

He confirmed Carney Chukwuemeka and Trevoh Chalobah’s problems, which were added to the injury list just before the press conference, were pretty minor.

“Trevoh is doing well in the last few days. We will assess him again and see if he can be available. The percentage of Trevoh being available is high because it is not a big issue,” was his first update. He then spoke on CC:

“Carney was good after the game against Leicester but suffered a small injury while away with the national team. It wasn’t while he was with us.”

They will miss this next game, it appears, but after that we reckon they’ll both be selectable.

Chukwuemeka looks like he will have to wait once again for a starting role, with Raheem Sterling likely to continue in that part of the pitch. Mykhailo Mudryk is another player who could benefit.

Once Chukwuemeka is ready, Pochettino will have to throw him into the mix, his cameos have been to impressive not to do so.

Benoit Badiashile’s fitness will probably be tested with him replacing Chalobah – but the academy star is ready to step in right away if one either Badiashile or Axel Disasi struggles from now on. Thiago Silva is also pushing for places. Finally there’s almost some depth at the back.
