“Wouldn’t you rather see your owner visible?” – Former Chelsea striker questions Boehly

Chris Sutton has questioned Todd Boehly’s decision to attend the Bahrain Grand Prix rather than Chelsea’s game with Brentford.

Whilst Boehly was absent Behdad Eghbali was in attendance at the Gtech Community Stadium as Chelsea dropped more points as they try to avoid missing out on European football for the second consecutive season.

The American was in Bahrain for the opening race of the 2024 Formula One season and he will no doubt have been pleased with that decision as he was subject to unsavoury chants from the fans in the away end.

Boehly isn’t a popular figure amongst the fan base at the moment and certainly riled up Chelsea supporters with some of his actions including regular visits to the dressing room last season and appointing himself as interim sporting director back in the summer of 2022.

He has since taken a back seat from the day to day running of the club and hasn’t been regularly attending games this season.

Not many would have taken issue with Boehly’s decision not to be at last weekend’s game but former Chelsea striker Sutton questioned it.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live he said: “He was at the F1 Todd Boehly at the weekend? Well if your team is doing badly, wouldn’t you rather see your owner visible. He can have a life but..”

Boehly will be desperately hoping for an improvement in results to try and change the fan perception of the new ownership who face another big decision on whether they should  sack Mauricio Pochettino or not.
