(Video) – Alfie Gilchrist reflects on “surreal” moment after he scored his first Chelsea goal

Alfie Gilchrist couldn’t contain his emotions as he scored his first Chelsea goal in the 6-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Gilchrist came off the bench late on and hammered home Chelsea’s sixth goal after Ben Chilwell’s shot had been parried into his path by Jordan Pickford.

The academy graduate described his goal as the “icing on the cake” of a brilliant performance and his celebrations summed up how he was feeling as he sprinted to celebrate with the Chelsea fans in the Shed End.

It’s been a breakthrough season for the 20-year-old at his boyhood club and he has now established himself as a member of the first team squad.

The defender signed a new contract until 2026 with the option of a further year at the start of April and has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Gilchrist described seeing the replay of his goal on the big screen as a “surreal” moment.
