Caught Offside have today reported on rumours that Chelsea are interested in signing Wolves defender Max Kilman.
The 26 year old centre back has now had a few years as a regular starter for the Midlands outfit, and has really developed into a nicely well rounded Premier League player, with a good balance of technique and physicality.
Aston Villa are also said to be tracking him, and a number of clubs have apparently scouted him this season. We first reported on Chelsea’s interest back at the start of 2022, and he’s clearly a player we’ve considered for a long time.
Back then he was seen as an ideal replacement for Andreas Christensen, who was on his way out that summer. In the end, the regrettable moves for Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly were prioritised ahead of any bids for the Englishman, who is a boyhood Chelsea fan. His value has doubled to €35m since then, according to TransferMarkt.
A lot of our dream targets simply won’t be available this summer, either just because of their cost, or because we’re not an attractive option while we remain out of European competition. Kilman is in a position where he would certainly consider a move to us an upgrade however.
Another question is whether the 26 year old, likely to cost a pretty penny, will fit into either our strict FFP limitations for this summer, or whether he fits into our recruitment filters at the moment, with our current focus very much on players under 23 or those available at a bargain price.
You’re deluded if you think you could get him for under £50m maybe even more, contrary to reports we don’t have to sell to abide by ffp having sold £143m of talent last summer and not spending in the winter window.
