Chelsea’s links to 14 goal contribution La Liga forward may have to wait

A rather interesting new transfer rumours has cropped up on Caught Offside. They cite sources in Spain which say that Chelsea are interested in signing attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid.

The 24 year old returned from a two year spell at AC Milan and has shown his value as an option for Carlo Ancelotti this season. But he’s not a guaranteed starter, and that looks set to become an even more difficult situation when Kylian Mbappe and Endrick arrive at the Spanish giants this summer.

With Rodrygo and Vincius Jr set to stick around for ten years or more, Brahim looks set to drop significantly further down the pecking order. But will that be enough to force him to move? We’re not so sure. One can imagine him sticking around to compete for another year in Madrid at least, especially as he can play deeper in a midfield role, perhaps replacing some of the minutes of the departing Luka Modric.

He’s a brilliant technical talent between the lines and we’re sure Chelsea are keeping an eye on his situation. But given he would cost a bomb and we’re not really in a position to be spending much, this could be more of a long term option for the club as we wait for him to push for a departure.

Diaz has 9 goals and 5 assists this season as Madrid move towards yet another La Liga title and perhaps even a Champions League. Even with new challenges on the horizon, it’s hard to see Brahim pushing too hard to jump ship.
