Fabrizio Romano has just put out a pretty sensational story on Caught Offside in his exclusive Daily Briefing.
He claims that Chelsea tried to sign Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez last summer, after his first season at Anfield.
“What I wanted to tell you guys is to remind you and to let you enter into the details of the story that Chelsea, at the end of the last summer transfer window, in the final weeks where they were looking for a striker, they really tried to bring in Darwin Nunez,” Romano reported.
“They really had conversations to make it happen but for Liverpool it was a clear ‘No.’ What I heard is that Jurgen Klopp said no to that move, and really wanted to keep a crucial player for the present and future of Liverpool, but Chelsea were super keen on Darwin Nunez.”
Certainly it felt like, having signed Nicolas Jackson, we were in the market for a big time striker. But nothing ever felt close. This would have been mind blowing.
Romano pushing the limits
Now Fabrizio is obviously very well connected and knows his stuff – but in this case it just sounds so far fetched considering Darwin cost Liverpool €85m.
As we all know painfully well from being Chelsea fans realising how hard it’s going to be to shift players like Mykhailo Mudryk once you’ve paid a lot for them, moving on a player like Darwin just a year after you paid big money for him is going to be almost impossible. The gap between what Liverpool can accept as a fee and what Chelsea can offer is just too great at this stage in his contract. It’s the reason that players like Romelu Lukaku and Kepa end up loaned out year after year rather than sold.
On the other hand, maybe it’s so mad it might be true?
To partner Jackson / NKunKu is mudryk . Mudryk best position is behind striker . His not functioning in the wing . Plus Chelsea FC should try to get the Ukrainian striker play for girona . And another world class central midfielder to partner Enzo / caceido/ Lavia/ Santos . Unfortunately Lavia was injured and Wesley fofana too . Hope next season both are fit season by season . Next manager hansi flick with John Terry as assistant . Sort out the medical department to lessen injuries . Only 4 quality players they need to improve for next season. Center Back , Left Back , Central Midfield and Striker . Need’s all are skill quality players . Dorgu a young left back wants to play for Chelsea FC if his good quality blue.
