Chelsea are not in Europe this season, but we can still live vicariously through the successes of our loaned out players.
Ian Maatsen is our last Champions League representative, and tonight he lashed in a superb narrow angle striker to put Dortmund 2-0 up in their game against Atletico Madrid – which they would go on to win, qualifying them for a rather unexpected semi final on the softer side of the draw.
Sadly for Chelsea fans, watching Maatsen thrive and prove himself on loan doesn’t mean we can expect him back in the squad this summer ready to play next season. It just means he’s juicing up his value for the inevitable sale this summer, so that we can afford to pay the amortisation on Marc Cucurella…
But anyway, congratulations Ian. We’ll be backing you in the semi final against PSG!
