We wanted an early, easy start for Chelsea, and we’ve got one.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team were able to create some promising early chances from open play, but it was from a set piece that they’ve opened up a lead. Thiago Silva got on the end of a corner on his return to the team, to put them ahead at Bramall Lane.
In the end, unusually for a centre back scoring from a corner, he didn’t even have to head it. He caught it with his instep on the full volley and just guided it into the far corner with the defence nowhere to be seen.
That was the ideal start – now we want 2 more goals and a totally relaxed second half. This is one of the worst Premier League teams we can remember seeing, with the marking on this set piece a reminder of that.
