Former Chelsea player Craig Burley believes Mason Mount will be regretting his move to Manchester United last summer.
Mount swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £60m, which ended his 18 year stay in west London having first joined the Chelsea at the age of six.
The England international was one of a number of players to move on last summer as Todd Boehly and Clearlake cleared out large parts of the squad.
Mount regretting move to Manchester United?
Some moves have worked out with Mateo Kovacic settling in well at Manchester City, whilst Kai Havertz has made an impact at Arsenal.
However when it comes to Mount it’s safe to say his first season in red has been nothing short of a disaster, with him only scoring once so far this season, and missing large parts of the campaign through injury.
United now sit below Chelsea in the table, and he was heavily booed on his return to Stamford Bridge as United succumbed to a last minute defeat.
The 25-year-old has also lost his place in the England set-up and Burley believes he may be regretting not signing a new contract with the Blues.
“Mason Mount, obviously he’s had an injury ravaged season, but even when he’s been fit he looks like who’s like oh my god I’ve just made one of the biggest.. he told ESPN.
“Not that Chelsea are great, they’re not, but as a player you make a decision and how decision he thought was going to a club that were on the front foot.
“Whilst he’s been poor himself and he’s been out, he’s got to be thinking to himself I’ve made a terrible move here.”
Chelsea certainly haven’t missed Mount with Cole Palmer starring this season and stepping up for the Blues, but Mount looks nothing like the player who played a key role in the club’s second Champions League triumph in 2021, and won Chelsea’s Player of the Year two seasons in a row.
