Jeremy Doku’s move to Man City last summer has proven to be a big success, with the Belgian winger really impressing in his debut campaign.
He spoke to the media following the conclusion of the Sky Blues’ season and brought up a former Chelsea star as a player who inspired him.
“Eden Hazard inspired me and now I can say I’ve had the opportunity to play with him,” the Belgian said of his countryman in quotes picked up by SportsBible.
“Any games we [his family] couldn’t watch live, we’d always watch on Match of the Day. That’s when I really fell in love with the Premier League.
“I enjoyed having the opportunity to see players on the pitch that you wouldn’t always get to watch very often. The show also played a big part in me deciding to join the Premier League, as it always kept me inspired growing up.”
It’s brutal to think that we missed out on the chance to bring him to Chelsea when he presumably would have loved to follow in Eden’s footsteps.
Looking to get to the next level
It’s no surprise to see him name Hazard – the two have a similar style of play in terms of wanting to take people on and use their skill to beat a man.
Hazard wasn’t the most ruthless in front of goal, but he was a true game changer, and for many years Chelsea’s entire structure in attack was built around getting him the ball and letting him do damage. Doku has had incredible flashes in this Man City team but has yet to deliver week in week out like Hazard yet.
If he does get to that level, the Premier League had better watch out. There’s no stopping Man City as it stands, if we add a Hazard-like Doku into the mix, nobody will have any chance.
