Chelsea owner says “winning is at the top of the things that’s most important”

One of Chelsea’s owners have stated the very obvious this week in some words on how to best make good revenue whilst running a football club.

The bottom line is always winning games, this leads to all your best revenue, and this is why I have never doubted the intentions and ambitions of Chelsea’s new ownership group.

EXCLUSIVE! Strong chance Pochettino now stays, Benjamin Sesko could arrive at CFC this summer, Victor Osimhen swap-deal unlikely, Tosin Adarabioyo contract demands, Much more…

They want to make money, they want to turn profits, of course they do, they are running a business here after all. And in football, always the best way to turn profits and make good money is by winning games of football and being at the top. Winning leads to trophy lifts, European qualification, and much better sponsorship opportunities, as well as increased popularity and more supporters joining along. And I don’t need to tell any of you that all of this leads to more revenue and increased profits – it just all makes sense.

And that is basically what Todd Boehly has been saying in his latest words in an interview picked up by The Athletic this week.

On building a larger global fan base and growing revenue, Boehly said:

“One of the things that Premier League clubs have is worldwide marks they can use — we’ve got a global group of players from Argentina to Brazil. Part of the long-range plan will be really to extend the brand as much as possible to build a fanbase because ultimately the larger our fanbase grows, the more competitive we’ll be able to be because these salary caps are based on revenue.

“In order to compete, you have to have growing revenue. And I think a brand like Chelsea really allows for that. Growing that brand, especially globally, is predicated on winning. I think that winning is at the top of the things that’s most important. When you’re attracting a new fan, the key is to have something that’s really aspirational.”
