Chelsea’s interest in a striker goes back to last summer and beyond. Over the course of this season it’s felt like there are a few major names at the top of the list, including Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Ivan Toney.
But as time has gone by, the links to each of them has faded compared to previous stages where each has felt like a very likely signing. Now none of them look particularly close, for various reasons.
One alternative who has been on the backburner for some time is Benjamin Sesko, a less well established but no less talented option playing for RB Leipzig. As the interest in the others has faded away, it’s felt like he’s come into the picture more and more.
The €65m release clause in his contract only makes that temptation greater.

A final run that could tempt any big club
If he is pushing for a move this summer, he couldn’t have done a much better job than what we saw to close out his campaign. He grabbed 7 in his final 7 games for Leipzig this season, including a screamer on the final day against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Given he’s still just 20, it shows great progress, and finishing strong is always more likely to get you in the mix for a move come the summer. His final tally for the season including international goals for Slovenia) was an impressive 21 goals and 4 assists, but without that final spree it would look a lot less rosy.
14 goals in 17 starts in the Bundesliga is truly impressive however, and it feels like his star continues to rise even as those of his rivals fades in terms of a potential move.
Now it’s a question of who is going to be willing to take the plunge on the raw but immensely promising youngster this summer.
