Former Blue William Gallas has explained why he thinks Jose Mourinho isn’t a good fit for the current Chelsea squad.
Mourinho is arguably the club’s greatest ever manager and has spent two very successful spells at Stamford Bridge, which saw him win three Premier League titles.
Current manager Mauricio Pochettino is coming under increased pressure following another disappointing campaign for the Blues, which sees them languishing in ninth with just five games remaining.
Gallas explains why Mourinho isn’t right for this Chelsea squad
With Pochettino’s job under threat and Mourinho currently out of work after being sacked by Italian side AS Roma, fans have been pining for a third spell for the special one.
Whilst it would be an amazing story to see Mourinho back in west London, the reality is football has moved on a lot since he was last at the club, with Chelsea also virtually unrecognisable from when the Portuguese was last in charge.
Former Blue Gallas believes a return to Chelsea would be Mourinho’s best option but conceded the current squad doesn’t suit him.
In words cited by @Blue_Footy on X he said: “With Jose, you have to give him the right players, it’s that simple.
“You have to give him warriors and the right players who want to fight and who want to make sacrifices and aren’t scared to suffer.
“If Chelsea gave him these types of players, he would be a great choice, I don’t know the players so well but I think some of the players aren’t strong enough to work with Mourinho.
“With Mourinho, you also have to fight for your place in training and I think some of Chelsea’s players are too soft.”
It remains to be seen what Chelsea do with Pochettino at the end of the season, but a return for Mourinho with Chelsea in it’s current guise seems a distant reality.
