20-year-old Chelsea star set to be assessed by Blues boss next week

Chelsea have asked Omari Hutchinson to return to Cobham next week so he can be assessed by Mauricio Pochettino in training according to reports.

Hutchinson joined Chelsea from Arsenal on a free transfer in 2022, and has made two appearances for the first team.

The 20-year-old spent this season on loan in the Championship with Ipswich, which was a huge success with Hutchinson scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 44 league appearances, as the Tractor Boys won promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 20 years.

Chelsea to assess Hutchinson at Cobham

Hutchinson made quite the impact at Portman Road and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year, he also won the Ipswich Player of the Month on three separate occasions and was named Championship Player of the Month for February.

In the aftermath of the promotion celebrations the winger spoke of his desire to return to Ipswich next season, but first he will return to Chelsea where he only has one year left on his contract.

Hutchinson had a brilliant season on loan at Ipswich.

According to The Athletic Chelsea have asked Hutchinson to return to their Cobham base next week so he can be assessed in training by Pochettino before the next steps in his career are discussed.

They also add the possibility of him being sold to the highest bidder can’t be ruled out as the Blues need to comply with profit and sustainability rules, and fund new purchases.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has added a new loan is a serious possibility with other Premier League clubs  keen, whilst there’s also interest from Holland and Germany.

It does make sense for Hutchinson to be assessed by Pochettino and then discuss what the right step for his future is.

Even if the plan is to return to Ipswich it could be a sensible idea for him to go on Chelsea’s pre-season tour to get to know the squad, get some minutes and try and make an impression.
