“I hope so” – Chelsea loanee could see his €4.5m value explode if he gets his wish

Omari Hutchinson has been speaking to the media following Ipswich’s promotion yesterday.

The Chelsea loanee played a key role in getting the Tractor Boys up, including scoring a goal against Huddersfield to seal it. Speaking on Sky Sports afterwards, he was very open about his desire to stay put next season:

“I hope so. We will see what the manager and my agent says. Right now I just want to celebrate,” the winger said.

It seems like a no brainer to us. He’s thriving there and playing for a really good coach, and testing himself at the next level is a natural next step. Assuming the finances are easy to sort out, we can’t see why we would try anything other than getting him back there next season.

He’s still got plenty of contract left to run, and his value is still rated pretty low at just €4.5m on Transfermarkt. A year in the Prem could multiply that several times.

A self-made pathway to the top

As Chelsea fans have learned over the years, deciding a loan for a player is a complex task. You ideally want them playing at the highest level possible, but playing more is infinitely preferable to playing less at a higher level.

So while others found Premier League loans then sat on the bench, Hutchinson dropped down to the Championship, but was a regular by the halfway mark of the season.

What’s beautiful about their promotion is that he can now stick with the same group and build on last year’s success, while playing at a higher level. It really has turned into the dream move for everyone, and that’s in large part to Hutchinson’s own hard work in getting into the first team and doing so well.

Whatever happens, we’ll be seeing him in the Premier League next season.
