Marc Cucurella’s strong end of season form has seen him rewarded with a place in Spain’s provisional squad for Euro 2024.

Cucurella arrived from Brighton in deal worth £63m in 2022 and endured a difficult first season at the club, with Chelsea fans even booing him at times as the team slumped to a 12th placed finish.

The 25-year-old might not have been at Chelsea this season, had he completed a proposed loan move to Manchester United.

The left back started the season behind Ben Chilwell, but got a chance to play due to injuries and even impressed at right back.

The Spaniard picked up an ankle injury in December that required surgery, and on his return to the team he put in some good performances.

Cucurella’s performances really went up a level over the last five games of the season following a tactical switch which saw him invert into midfield when Chelsea were in possession.

He became one of Chelsea’s best players in that period and demonstrated his quality with the fans really taking to him and chanting his name.

Cucurella’s fine end of season form has seen him called up to Spain’s provisional Euro 2024 squad, but it remains to be seen if he makes the cut for the final 26.
