Pochettino sack may have been caused by this single silly club decision which he disagreed with

It’s hard to get your head around why Chelsea have parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino, even knowing all the facts.

Things weren’t perfect. but they were going well enough to feel fairly confident he would be sticking around. Now that’s he’s gone, pundits and journalists are scrambling for information on why, to try and make sense of a departure that’s pretty puzzling to those on the outside.

We’ve heard a few things mentioned now. There seem to have been increasing tensions over transfers – both in terms of who the club wanted to bring in and who they wanted to sell. As any manager would in his situation, Pochettino pushed for more experienced players who could help the team win now, while the ownership pressed on with their desire to buy and use only young players.

The silly reason it may come down to

There also seems to have been more technical criticisms, with owners apparently unhappy with the team’s poor performance in front of goal, and other “data” they apparently brought to the meeting with Pochettino.

We’re now seeing stated the desire for Pochettino’s replacement to play a dynamic and possession based style of football, an implicit criticism of the way that the Argentine had his team playing.

But recently added to the mix is an interesting quote from David Ornstein, he referenced the club’s desire to bring in a set piece coach – something they finalised in the last couple of weeks. Pochettino was apparently reluctant to do this, wanting to work in a more traditional and holistic way.

This feeds into the bigger picture, that Pochettino wasn’t considered “collaborative” enough. Can it really be true that something as ultimately trivial as having a specialist set piece coach could have been the inciting indident for the collapse of this whole regime? It seems like it might be.

  1. TOLD YOU MANY TIMES, THE YANKS HAVE NOT GOT A CLUE WITH PLAYERS. I AGREE WITH POCH LEAVING AS HIS IDEAS WERE JUST AS BAD. NOWWWW FOR A CHANGE GROW A BRAIN CELL, AND EMPLOY EITHER JOSE OR TUCHEL THE TWO MOST SUCCESSFUL MEN WE HAVE HAD, AND PROMOTE JOHN TERRY AND ASHLEY AS ASSISTANTS, AND FOR GOD’S SAKE LET THEM DO THE JOB WITHOUT YOU LOT BUTTING YOUR IGNORANT NOSES IN, CFC WILL THEN AGAIN BE A POWERFUL TEAM, AS WAS BEFORE YOU RUINED IT

    1. Blaming this on “yanks” is just ignorant from. You appear to blithely unaware that half of the clubs in the EPL are owned by Americans. Indeed, we’re a big reason it’s the become the richest league in the world, lol!

As for bringing back Mourinho or Tuchel… don’t make us laugh. The former is washed up and would be a terrible match for such a young team, and the latter is a one-trick pony who’s repeatedly gotten jobs at the biggest clubs and then struggled to win trophies. When you look at his CV even his UCL title with us seems like an aberration—more luck than skill!
