“That’s where Jackson fits in” – Former Chelsea player has exciting vision for how attack will work next season

Tony Cascarino was on TalkSport this morning talking about Chelsea and their exciting attack that’s gradually coming together.

After missing almost the whole season, Christopher Nkunku has played two games off the bench and could be ready to start today. Cascarino is especially interesting in seeing how he fits with Nicolas Jackson as a front pair:

“I have seen a lot of him [Christopher Nkunku]. He is not really a natural forward, that’s where Jackson fits in.

“Say, if Jackson improves 20% on his finishing, he is going to get 25 goals, 20 goals in the Premier League because he has missed so many chances. He is clearly as guilty as anybody of not finishing as many chances as he has had, but there is a lot to like about him.

“He is so quick. He can be direct and quick. I just think that the choices he makes in the final part of his game, is the final part of his jigsaw really because I think he has a lot to offer to Chelsea.”

Complementary parts

It seems we’re not the only ones excited about the potential link up between the two. As Cascarino notes, there are great complementary aspects to their game.

Jackson has great speed, intensity and is a dynamic presence chasing defenders and leading the line. Nkunku is more of a drifter, with really lovely technique and intelligence to get into spaces and make runs that Jackson sometimes doesn’t. Jackson should create lots of space for Nkunku to work with, and in return Nkunku should be able to set Jackson up with a lot of close range chances for him to finish.

Between the two of them we’ve got a really exciting combination on the cards. We hope we get to see more of it today, before they have a whole summer ahead to work on it.
