“The reality is this…” – Exclusive update on key Chelsea man’s future should mean summer stability

Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Chelsea is looking increasingly safe.

Despite some major doubts not long ago, the coach has picked up important wins, and reporting from Fabrizio Romano today exclusively for Caught Offside makes it sound very much like the Argentine will still be here next season:

“Mauricio Pochettino may have raised some eyebrows with his recent comments about his future, but the reality is this: Chelsea are happy with the team’s recent performances, but also Pochettino knows any decision was always going to be made close to the end of the season,” Romano wrote in his column.

“This is something the club has always confirmed even in difficult, really difficult moments months ago. So that remains the case,” he continued.

Getting into Europe seemed like the minimum benchmark set by those upstairs, and two wins in our final two games should get us into the Conference League at least.

Only one sensible solution for this summer

At this point, sticking with Pochettino seems the only sensible option. He’s battled against some tough circumstances, he’s never lost the support of the players, and he’s finishing the season strong with some results that should make everyone a lot happier.

There’s also the important example of Bayern Munich to keep an eye on. They decided Thomas Tuchel would leave at the end of the season several months ago, but despite being a massive club with a huge budget and almost guaranteed trophies, they’ve not been able to attract anyone to take over this summer.

In fact, they’ve been rejected by some of their favoured candidates.

If they’re going to struggle like that, you’ve got to be realistic about who Chelsea might be able to land. Even Pochettino’s biggest critics would rather see us stick with him than bring in some of the alternatives.
