Chelsea are closing in on the appointment of Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their new manager, with the Blues approaching Leicester for permission to speak with the Italian.
The Blues announced the departure of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday evening, after just one season at the club, and in the subsequent days have been working hard to appoint a replacement.
It appears they are now closing in on Maresca, a former assistant of Pep Guardiola’s at Manchester City as their next boss.
The 44-year-old guided Leicester to the Championship title last season, and promotion back to the Premier League, but the step up to the top flight is huge, and this would represent a huge risk by Chelsea.
However, current Leicester star Harry Winks may have given Chelsea fans something to be positive about when discussing his manager back in March.
Winks, who has worked under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino, described Maresca as incredible and the best he’s worked under, stating he believes he will go right to the top in management.
