England star’s wages look impossible for Chelsea to pay, despite recommendation of former defender

William Gallas has been speaking about the future of an English superstar, and has suggested that Chelsea should get in the mix and potentially provide a new home for him.

Marcus Rashford has never quite lived up to the incredible potential he showed early in his career, and the last year has seen his progress grind to a halt in a very strange Manchester United team which nobody is really sure what to make of.

Gallas thinks that a move is just what Rashford needs to get things started again:

“There will always be quality players who are interested in signing for Chelsea, but we have to ask if Rashford would want to leave Man Utd. Nobody knows the reason, maybe he has a problem with Erik ten Hag,” the former Blues defender said in an interview picked up by TeamTalk.

“Maybe injuries have been a problem and another club for a fresh start could be the right option and Chelsea would provide this for him.”

A tough move to pull off for Chelsea

For Rashford’s own sake, a move does seem like it would make sense. It’s always sad when a player’s career at their boyhood club runs aground, but sometimes fresh pastures are what a player needs to get things moving again.

We’d even recommend a move abroad for Rashford, but we can also see why Chelsea would be tempted. and why he might be keen to come to London.

The problem is likely to be wages – as a player already on very big money at United, Rashford is not going to fit easily into a Chelsea structure which is focused on bringing young players in and securing them on long deals.

But if he was willing to be flexible on that front, tactically we can see him being a great fit as a striker option to alternate with Nicolas Jackson.
