In typical Chelsea fashion, we’ve managed to get a player into the Champions League team of the season, despite not being in the Champions League this season…
Ian Maatsen, who couldn’t get a game in the first part of the season sitting on the bench for Mauricio Pochettino’s team, ended up as left back in the competition’s TOTS after helping Dortmund on their superb run to the final.

It’s a well deserved honour for Maatsen, whose loan move to Dortmund in January was part of what really sparked an average team into life in the second half of the season.
Sadly for most Chelsea fans, we already know what comes next – the sale of the youngster to Dortmund permanently, or to whoever else will pay us what we want. Honours like this, as well as the performances which earned it, will do very well to help us get what we want.
