Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been speaking a bit about another managerial change at Chelsea and how he believes Enzo Maresca needs to help two players dominate games.
The biggest thing about Maresca’s football is that he plays possession-based games with a slower build up but keeping hold of the ball. It will mean that a lot of teams in the Premier League will look to be parking the bus against Chelsea and hit them on the counter attack.
Sources: Chelsea still eyeing centre backs, winger noise intensifies, Osimhen off the menu – who now?
But to dominate games in this league, you need top quality players who are strong on the ball and technically gifted, and you need those players all over the pitch but especially in the middle of it.
Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have been Chelsea’s two biggest ever signings, and it is these two who will need to step up the most and dominate games for Chelsea to really improve under Maresca.
Mikel thinks they will dominate
Mikel said on talkSPORT: “Enzo Fernandez is a good player, he is a World Cup winner, so he [Enzo Maresca] needs to find a way to get the best out of him as well. If he can do that, he will be so good for us.
“Him and Caicedo in the middle will be so good. They both I can see them can be able to dominate games. He has to find a way to make sure that he can get the best out of Enzo Fernandez.”
Mikel is spot on here and I agree that these two have a good chance of controlling games for Chelsea against most sides.
But it will be the whole team who will need to play their part with keeping the ball, dominating, and doing something positive with it when they do get it.
