The massive change many Chelsea fans are already ignoring during summer frenzy

Most Chelsea fans are very distracted by a few things right now.

Firstly there’s the Euros, which are being played every day and involved tons of Blues – past, present and possibly future too.

It’s getting into the sharp end of the tournament too, so it’s only getting more absorbing. Plus the Copa America has kicked off now too, with plenty of Chelsea interest in that tournament as well.

Then there’s the endless joy of the transfer market – comings and goings and FFP dealings. At Chelsea, it’s a never ending stream of news. So it’s easy to forget the stories which were dominating just a few weeks ago – those around the Blues appointing a new manager after the somewhat unexpected departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

The headline behind the headlines

Enzo Maresca’s arrival was soon bumped from the back pages by other stories, so he’s been able to get on with his first weeks at Cobham with few distractions. But once the dust has settled on the international tournaments, it will really start to sink in that we’ve got yet another new coach in place.

Leicester players were in a similar situation a year ago – and they only ended up with a year to work with him before he moved on. Foxes key player Kiernan Dewsbury Hall had the following to say about the coach who really helped him up his game:

“Enzo was an unbelievable manager. I genuinely see him becoming a top manager, so it wasn’t a surprise to see he was in demand. It is weird having to change a manager after being so successful, but that’s football,” KHD said in quotes picked up by BBC Sport.

Let’s hope that in a year’s time, it will be Chelsea players waxing lyrical about the Italian in a similar way.
