Chelsea haven’t progressed on deal for 24-year-old Ligue 1 star since making initial contact

Chelsea haven’t progressed any further on a deal for Lille striker Jonathan David since making initial contact according to reports.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market and have already made five signings, with FC Basel’s Renato Veiga set to become the sixth.

Even though the club have signed 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona the Blues are reportedly still looking to bring in another striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson.

Chelsea haven’t progressed on David deal

Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of names across Europe to fill the striker role, and are believed to be looking for someone to compete with Jackson not replace him.

The 23-year-old joined the club last summer from Spanish side Villareal and had a successful debut campaign scoring 17 goals in all competitions, with 14 of those coming in the Premier League.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion and David, who would represent good value in the market.

Chelsea made initial contact over a move for the Canada international, but Mail Sport journalist Kieran Gill has reported the club haven’t progressed any further on a deal.

He took to X.com and said:

“Sounding like Chelsea aren’t rushing to sign Jonathan David ahead of other competition as told nothing further progressed since interest revealed two weeks ago.

“24yo Lille striker available for around £20m this summer and one of a few options considered by #CFC.”

There’s a chance Chelsea may not add another striker and go with Jackson and Guiu, who they consider a top talent, with Nkunku also able to play in the number nine role.

It has been reported that Chelsea haven’t completely ruled out making a move for Victor Osimhen if Napoli drop their asking price for the Nigerian.

However, it’s possible the Blues could be biding their time to see how Guiu does in pre-season before rushing into a decision over what striker to sign.
