Chelsea are on the verge of completing another signing – according to the Evening Standard, Aaron Anselmino will be in London today to conduct his medical and complete a deal to join from Boca Juniors.
After more than a month of rumours about a potential move, it looks like it will finally be completed in the next 24 hours. The piece says that personal terms and a transfer fee are already agreed. Once the medical is done, a “long term contract” can be signed off on.
Apparently Anselmino is a “young talent rich enough in potential to be a potential Blues stalwart,” joining the likes of Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez on our books.
The first wave of South American talent bought by Clearlake – Deivid Washington, Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel – have hardly set the world alight so far.
Quotes from the centre back make his excitement clear:
“I’m very happy, everything happened very quickly. Since I was a little boy, I dreamed of this, things are going well and I hope they continue like this. Every footballer dreams of this opportunity, I’m very happy.”
Young defender’s pathway is clear
Unlike a lot of the younger players arriving this summer, Anselmino’s pathway is already clear. It’s been decided that he will stay at Boca on loan until at least January, when his progress can be assessed. We hope he continues to play regularly in that time – for all his talent, he has desperately few first team minutes on record, and needs to play to develop.
There are already concerns about his potential because of this – if he’s so good, why hasn’t he played more for a bad Boca team? And why isn’t he featuring for Argentina’s youth groups? Perhaps our scouts are just really ahead of the curve on this one…
