“Nobody has given me anything” – Defiant Chelsea player ready for best moment of his career

Marc Cucurella in a Spain press conference.

Marc Cucurella has had a rough time since joining Chelsea, becoming something of a joke at times after some admittedly comic moments.

But this last few months have seen a real change – his club form improved, that got him into the Spain side for the Euros, and he hasn’t looked back since then. He’s really impressed for La Roja and took the press conference today ahead of their game against France tomorrow night.

He was in a defiant mood, as you’d expect:

“Nobody has given me anything so I am very happy right now. I knew that if I worked hard and gave my best, this could happen. It’s a dream to be here and a lot of people would give everything they have to be here where I am,” he commented.

He’s loving every moment it seems, and we’re delighted to see it. Even those Blues who want him sold will be loving the way demand for his services increases with every impressive showing.

A new lease of life

We have been the first to criticise Cucurella for his flaws and for his bad games, and we’re not going to stop now. But there’s nothing better in life (let alone football) than a redemption story, and there’s nothing we would like more than to be proven wrong by a guy who is incredibly likeable as a person and a character, even if his football does frustrate sometimes.

Perhaps the highly rated coaching skills of new manager Enzo Maresca, plus the new system he’s going to introduce at Chelsea, will be just what we need to see Cucurella iron out those fatal flaws and become a truly top player? We’ve certainly not given up on the idea, and we’re already excited to see him in action.

But first things first – let’s see if he can bring a Euros winners’ medal back with him to Stamford Bridge!
