Marc Cucurella has insisted he doesn’t mind the wait for recognition amid his brilliant form for Spain at Euro 2024.
The 25-year-old is currently with the Spain squad preparing for Tuesday’s semi final against France, and is just two games away from becoming a European Champion.
Cucurella has taken his excellent end of season form with the Blues onto the international stage where he has been a key player for Spain in their run to the last four.
Cucurella happy to receive recognition for his performances
The former Brighton man has started all of Spain’s games against Germany except for the final group game against Albania where he was rested.
The Spaniard has been a revelation at Euro 2024, and after a difficult start to life at Chelsea he finally appears to be getting the recognition his performances deserve.
Cucurella has insisted he doesn’t mind about the wait for recognition and the most important thing is that people talk about you because you’re playing well.
“It doesn’t matter if it comes sooner or later, what matters is that people talk highly of you because you’re playing well,” he told The Guardian.
Cucurella admitted people can “lose track of you” when you move abroad, but added its great they are now following what he’s doing.
“People watch La Liga, the teams they’ve supported since they were little, so when you go abroad they lose track of you a bit,” he added.
“But what we’re doing here is nice, they’re following now, and that’s lovely. It’s all a product of everything going back a long time, working in silence. And I’m really happy to be here.”
The left back will face a tough task against France where he faces the prospect of coming up against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann, but on his current form you wouldn’t bet against him once again rising to the task.
